Sonia Hamon
The Jersey Eisteddfod is saddened to learn of the death of Sonia Hamon.
Sonia had been involved with the Eisteddfod for very many years and in various capacities – as a competitor, as a member of the English and Drama Section, of which she was a former Chairman, and as a Drama Tutor, in which capacity she had many successes when preparing her pupils.
Sonia was a fine actress, a delight to work with, and a talented director of plays.
Forty years ago she formed the Good Theatre Company – named after the play “Good” which she directed and which was the very first play performed in the new Jersey Arts Centre – a performance that took place in the concrete shell which was to become the stage area.
It was in “Good” that her husband, Francis, known to many as Frank, demonstrated that he, too, was a fine actor. They were a most devoted couple.
We shall remember Sonia as a lady of elegant bearing and friendly disposition, but with determined views on the Art of which she was a talented exponent and an inspirational ambassador.
