ENTRIES INTO THE 2024 MUSIC FESTIVAL ARE NOW OPEN

EISTEDDFODD MUSIC IS SLIMMING DOWN
For 2024 we have taken the decision to rationalise our cumbersome syllabus to provide a reduced selection of classes, retaining those that are well-supported, restructuring and amalgamating certain classes, and aligning age groups. We have withdrawn certain classes that have had no or very few entries in recent years. All classes, however, remain on our computer system and can easily be re-generated in the future.

Our 2024 syllabus has some 90 classes instead of 279 and retains an element of performance choice for competitors of all ages.

Our class numbering is a little haphazard this year. To make it easier to view all classes in the sections you are interested in, please download and print off the Brief Class overview which gives a short list of classes and includes specific competition dates and venues for certain classes (indicated in red font).

The full Music Syllabus 2024 is also available on our website.

Once you have decided which classes to enter, log in as normal to the Run My Festival programme, search for the relevant class number, check the class criteria and enter in the usual way.

Eisteddfod Music has always attracted immense generosity from the people of Jersey especially in the donation of trophies. In slimming down the syllabus, we have had to make decisions about which trophies to ‘retire’ for now, and which to reallocate. Our aim is to make every competitive class a trophy class. If you have a concern about a trophy, please contact Sue de Gruchy at eist.music.chair@gmail.com

Music, English Speech and Drama, and Dance will be using the new marking system proposed by the British Federation of Festivals from 2024. This has been introduced across the UK and adjudicators have had guidance in its use.

The bands of marks now fall into a broader range, covering 65 marks to 95 plus and a new “DEVELOPING” category has been added (JADE certificate) as well as an “EXCEPTIONAL” category (DIAMOND certificate).

We believe the new marking scheme will give more differentiation and a greater accuracy of the calibre of an individual performance compared with other performances nationally.

We look forward to welcoming you all – competitors, families and friends – to our Festival on November 10-17th 2024 Sue de Gruchy – music chairman
