Jersey Eisteddfod stalwarts honoured for 325 years of service

Long Service Awards have been presented to 19 Jersey Eisteddfod volunteers who between them have amassed 325 years of service for the Association.

At the Annual General Meeting at the Town Hall on Wednesday 17 July, the President, Constable Simon Crowcroft, thanked them all for giving of their time to ensure the smooth running of the two annual Eisteddfod Festivals – the Festival of the Creative Arts and the Festival of the Performing Arts.

A number of Annual Awards were also presented at the AGM, the main one being the Black Horse, which is the top award of the Eisteddfod and is presented to someone who has given outstanding service to the Association over a number of years.This year, it was awarded to Jill Bartholomew whose long contribution to the Eisteddfod started as a competitor. She is now Chairman of the Handwriting and Calligraphy Section and Chairman of the Festival of the Performing Arts Committee.

The full list of awards presented is as follows:

Black Horse: Jill Bartholomew.

Jersey Eisteddfod Special Service Awards: Pam Laurens (Catering and Publicity), Paul Anderson (Chairman of Adult & Youth Arts & Crafts), Sue Chipperfield (Chairman of Trophies) and Iris Fritz (Secretary of the Festival of the Performing Arts and organiser of the Combined Languages Gala).

Paperweight: Vas Anderson (assistance with the Adult & Youth Arts & Crafts Section of the Festival of the Creative Art).

The following British and International Federation of Festivals Long-Service Awards were presented:

40 years: Sue de Gruchy (Music).

25 years: Joan Tapley (Jèrriais), Philippa Romeril (Floral Art), Gloria Roscouet (Floral Art), Colin Ireson (Jèrriais), Jane Mallet (Needlework), Heather Le Maistre (Needlework), Michael Blackie (Chairman of the Executive Council).

10 years: François Le Maistre (Jèrriais), Jill Bartholomew (Handwriting), Kath Le Maistre (Needlework), Jill Himayakanthan (Floral Art), Glyn Edmonston (Adult & Youth Arts & Crafts), Gill Morton (Adult & Youth Arts & Crafts), Christine Le Maistre (Modern Languages), Viv Armstrong (Music), Sue Bone (Needlework), Jane Le Sueur(Music), Claire Harvey (Music).
